I’m visiting the Abbey Museum of Art & Archaeology to attend an event.

Events are held in 3 main locations – The Abbey Museum building, The Abbey Church, and The Abbey Hall. 

My event ticket will clearly share where the event is hosted.

Most pathways are hard paved surfaces shown as RED dotted lines.

Some event parking will be on grass soft surface shown in GREEN dotted lines.

I can ask staff for guidance and assistance to help me navigate the area. I can recognise them by their Staff Lanyards.

To walk from the Abbey Museum entry to the Abbey Church entry, I will walk 85 metres.

To walk from the Abbey Church to the Abbey Hall, I will walk 175 metres.

To walk from the Abbey Museum entry to the Abbey Hall entry, I will walk 135 metres

The Abbey Hall

The Abbey Hall is behind the entrance to the Abbey Museum. I can follow the road around from the Museum entrance to reach the back of the Museum.

The Hall is airconditioned. During Summer months and with larger groups the airconditioning may be less effective at cooling.

The Abbey Hall has a main entrance with 5 stairs, hand rails and double doors. The entrance is covered by an awning for weather and shelter protection.

The path to the Abbey Hall forks towards the public toilets block which includes an accessible toilet and baby change station. 

I can find a ramp access to the Abbey Hall by following this path.

I can access the Abbey Hall at the back via a ramp.

There is limited turning space to enter the doorway and the ramp may not be accessible for all wheelchairs or mobility aids.

The Abbey Church

This is the view from the back carpark road towards the pathway for the Abbey Church.

The Abbey Church is airconditioned.

It is lit with both fluroescent lighting and ambiant lighting such as LED candlelight.

I may expect the overhead fluroescent lighting to be on during guest arrival/departure.

I may expect the fluroescent lights to remain on depending on the event. Some events may be dimly lit with ambiance lighting.

I will be sitting in closely situated pews.

I will walk down a hard surface path to the front of the Abbey Church.

I can find 3 stairs with a grab rail at the entry to the Abbey Church. An access ramp is available for me to use.

I can follow a hard surface path leading away from the Abbey Church and Abbey Museum for the public toilets.

Due to the lush gardens surrounding the Abbey Church, I may experience mosquitos in this area during warmer seasons.

The Abbey Church Toilets are not accessible.

I will find two small step access points to this toilet block. The toilets inside are quite narrow and unsuitable for use with mobility aids. The closest accessible toilets are inside the Abbey Museum.

I can find this unisex ambulant and accessible toilets inside the Museum to the left of the Abbey Museum Cafe.

If I need a quiet break, I am welcome to enjoy the gardens outside the Museum. I can also borrow a pair of ear defenders from the Visitor Information Desk.

For evening events, pathways may be dimly lit.

A floodlight may be turned on outside of the large shed on the path to the Abbey Hall to light my way.

I may be required to follow a procession from the Abbey Church to another location with staff assistance offering lighting.

Communications

I will receive event updates via email or SMS 24 – 28 hours prior to the event to advise parking, catering, arrival, scheduling and more.

I can always contact the Museum for advice with events in advance.
