Friends Presentation: Single Medieval Women: Who Were They & What Did They Do? By Rosalie Gilbert

February 22 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Author Rosalie Gilbert presents an enlightening exploration into the world of medieval women: who were they and what did they do?

Single women were a part of society in the Middle Ages, just as they are today, but you’d be forgiven for thinking that their lives were small and insignificant since they were often only included as appendages to their fathers or husbands.

In this presentation Rosalie will explore the truth of what life was like for these women. She will discuss all aspects of their day-to-day existence. From single unmarried girls under the age of 12 years and those of a marriageable age but still unwed to women who are separated or divorced or widowed or have chosen a life within a religious order…Depending on her age and rank, these women had options, or did they??

Join Rosalie for a fascinating journey into the lives of single women in the Medieval world.

Come a little earlier and visit the Museum and brand-new Abbey Art Gallery. Explore the collections of coins, sculpture, glass, ceramics, carvings, lacquerware, prehistoric stone and bone tools and spectacular Old Masters and Watercolours.
