Abbey Museum Art Gallery
Opened in February 2025, the Abbey Museum Art Gallery is the culmination of over 30 years of planning and dreams to showcase more of the Museum’s collection.
Offering a calming space for reflection, this space has been carefully designed to expand on the Museum’s offerings to students, groups and visitors.
With education programs on offer to students of Visual Arts and Religious Studies, the collection also offers multi-sensory and engaging activities, from brass rubbings to art stations for illustrative studies.
EXHIBITION:
Inspired Images: The Art of Faiths
This exhibition explores human history through works inspired by diverse spiritual beliefs. The collection includes medieval, renaissance and baroque paintings and sculptures, ceramics, stained glass, and works on paper, providing a rich resource for tourists and school groups, which already make approximately 10,000 visits to the museum annually.

The exhibition catalogue has been produced with funding from the Gordon Darling Foundation, a supporter of visual arts projects across Australia.
Beautifully designed by one of Queensland’s leading graphic artists Andrae Pilcher and written by Michael Strong, Senior Curator at the Abbey Museum, and Julia Jackson, Art Researcher, its 104 pages tell of the history and artistic significance of each artefact and painting in the collection. This can be purchased directly from The Abbey Museum shop and ships to multiple countries.
