Friends Presentation: “All that Glitters is not Gold: the Nexus silver coin hoard from the Toowoomba Bypass project” by Michael Strong

In late 2017, one of Australia’s largest silver coin hoards was found during construction of the new Toowoomba Bypass in extraordinary circumstances. Tracking down who hid these coins in a chest buried under a farm shed revealed an almost forgotten story of German settlement on the Darling Downs and led to a protracted legal battle over who owned the coins. Michael Strong was the senior archaeologist on this project and also undertook the analysis of the finds. Join the Friends for this fascinating presentation. Includes a light afternoon tea.
