The Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology is delighted to formally mark the commencement of construction on the $1.7m Art Gallery and Cafe.

Joined by Member for Pumicestone, Ali King, on behalf of the Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport, who along with Chair of the Abbey Museum, Edith Cuffe, who marked the occasion with a sod turning ceremony.

In attendance were Abbey Museum representatives, CEO Martin Purslow, Business Development Manager Paul Garcia, Vice-Chair Ann Baillie; key partners of the project, Architects Heinrich Olckers & Mark Burrows from Open Architecture Studio; Project Manager Chris Gill from Colab Projects; and representatives from ATG Construction who are bringing the project to life.

The Art Gallery and Cafe is expected to be completed by June 2024, with formal opening to follow later in the year.
