Following the $2.1M funding announcement in 2022 to award $1.7 Million towards the construction of the Abbey Museum Art Gallery and Café, and $400,000 towards the Abbey Medieval Festival, today we are delighted to announce a further $250,000 has been awarded to the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology to support the completion of the Art Gallery and Café.

This generous contribution is provided in addition to the existing funding offer from Queensland’s Department of Tourism and Sport, bringing the total funding from the Queensland Government to $2.35M.

Visitors have already had the opportunity to explore our new building and gallery space, with the inclusion of a temporary photography exhibition of the Abbey Medieval Festival, and further funding will now allow for completion of the permanent exhibition featuring unseen hidden treasures at Artwork from the Abbey Museum collection, and fit-out of our new Café space.

This funding allows the Museum to continue its work on delivering tourism to the region through its major events including the Abbey Medieval Festival and History Alive at Abbeystowe in September and will offer visitors a café and gallery experience nestled between Caboolture and Bribie Island.

Abbey Museum CEO Martin Purslow says, “We are delighted to secure this significant boost to our community fundraising from the Department of Tourism Industry and Sport. It will enable us to complete the installation of a major permanent exhibition in our beautiful new Art Gallery. The Exhibition ‘The Art of Faiths,’ will contain previously unseen renaissance and baroque art, and multicultural art / artefacts dating back as far as 3000 years. It promises to be a fantastic addition to the regions cultural offer.

In addition, funding will ensure the provision of a new café at the Abbey Museum, something that we know will significantly enhance our visitor experience.”

The Abbey Museum Art Gallery and Cafe construction is supported by the Queensland Government.
