Help us fund the conservation of our ancient Egyptian painted coffin panel
The Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology holds a remarkable collection of antiquities from around the world. Changing environmental conditions impact on artefacts in the collection. Objects made from metal, pottery, paper, fabrics, painted objects and wood being some of the most vulnerable. Abbey Museum staff annually review the most vulnerable in the collection to asses conservation requirements. The Museum also has objects ie broken ceramics or glass work that require attention when funds allow.
Over the last 13 years the Museum has focused on raising funds for its medieval and Victorian Stained Glass collection. As the majority of these were in situ in the Abbey Church they were seen as extremely vulnerable and identified as a high priority. This project has now been completed excluding some fragmentary panels in the Museum’s reserve collection.
Focus has now turned to other significant objects in the Museum
Your support of the Abbey Museums Conservation Program would enable us to conserve our wonderful collection for future generations to enjoy. Our current focus objects include: Egyptian Coffin painted panel, painting of a Guardian Angels after Poussin, a collection of Arundel prints and a Nativity sculpture attributed to Andrea Della Robbia.
If you wish to donate by cheque: Post to Abbey Museum of Art & Archaeology, 1-63 Abbey Place, Caboolture, QLD 4510

Many of us have devoted a lot of time into building collections that we wish to see preserved for others to enjoy, or have had an item of cultural or historical significance come into our possession.
Every year the Abbey Museum receives donations of cultural objects for its collections. Among the wonderful items given to us is an 1870 penny-farthing bicycle, a collection of early Medieval pottery; a magnificent illuminated Mughal Quran and a 15th century stained glass window. If you have an object or collection that you would like to donate to the Museum and are not sure whether it fits the Museum’s collections policy please contact us.
The Australian Government offers tax incentives for cultural gifts of antiquities and art objects over a certain value. Museum staff can advise you about the processes involved.
