On Friday 12th September, the Abbey Museum hosted a seminar: Public Art on Country: Collaboration, Place and Cultural Legacy.
Framed by the new sculpture Acknowledgement to Kabi Kabi Country by Lyndon Davis and Russell Anderson, the program included keynote talks by Dr John Waldron and Lubi Thomas, alongside an artist panel discussion involving Lyndon Davis, Simone Eisler, Russell Anderson, and Lubi Thomas.
Commencing with a Welcome to Country by Lyndon Davis at the sculpture, guests then moved to the Abbey Hall to hear Keynote Speakers Dr John Waldron and Lubi Thomas. This was followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with all artists, facilitated by Dr John Waldron.
Delivered as part of the presentation phase of Acknowledgement to Kabi Kabi Country project funded by Arts Queensland, the event explored how Public Art has the power to honour stories, shape place, and create enduring cultural legacies. The half-day seminar brought together artists and curators to explore how meaningful collaboration and site-responsive practice can result in meaningful and powerful public artworks.
