
Kids Dig It – Archaeological Antics 2019

Get your kids out of the house and digging up the past. Your archaeologist with search for artefacts, analyse finds and work in a lab.
Program will run from 10am – 2pm and is for 8-12 year old children. You can drop your kids off so you can do some Christmas shopping in peace. All staff have Blue Cards and teaching experience.
10:00 – Drop Off: Parents can drop children off at the museum entrance.
10:00 – 11:30 – Archaeological dig: Children will be taught the correct method of excavation. In groups of three, they will excavate a dig site and uncover the story. This will be in the dig sites we use for our high school education programs
11:30 – 12:00 – Coprolite investigation: Children will analyse fossilised poop to discover what foods ancient civilizations ate.
12:00 – 12:30 – Lunch BYO
12:30 – 1:00 – Pottery reconstruction: Children will work in pairs to reconstruct broken pottery.
1:00 – 1:30 – Museum Tour: Children will be taken on a guided tour of the museum to show what happens to the artefacts once they are removed from the ground.
1:30 – 2:00 – Archery: Children will learn and practice the art of archery. Traditional long bows will be used. This is designed to be a fun way to end the day.
2:00 – Pick up
If you do wish to stay with your child, you are welcome to. We will include admission to the museum for one parent.
