Friends Presentation: “The Art of Illumination – Calligraphy and Illuminated Addresses in the Modern Era”
April 15, 2023 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Calligraphy as an art form was once widespread, a dynamic beautification of the written word used practically, artistically and symbolically. The art of commissioning, making and presenting certificates and illuminated addresses as signs of respect and appreciation has a long history, but as that practice slowly fades away, so too do the skills that come with this art form.
Join the Abbey Friends for this presentation from local Scribe Brodie Taylor and discover the current applications from those that still maintain the tradition of calligraphy and illumination in the Modern Era.
Why not come a little earlier and visit the Museum to see the wonderful examples of illuminated Medieval manuscripts on display.
